A total of more than 10000 Kaydet were built, mainly for the USAAF and NAVY.
The Canadian Air Force coined the name Kaydet.
For agricultural flights, the Kaydet often had a chemical container in the front cockpit.
The last Stearman / Boeing Kaydet rolled off the assembly line in early 1945 after almost ten years of production.
Some USAAF samples were given blind flying hoods and the designation PT-17A.
The few PT-17s that still flew with the USAAF in 1948 were now called T-17s.
